chef in the garden

With the support of both National and local Australian chefs, Life is a Garden, brought to you by Nursery & Garden Industry Australia, is celebrating ‘How to Grow Your Own’ at home, offering a range of growing tips from Zucchini to Roma Tomatoes and inspiring recipes and tips from a range of chefs who share the Nursery & Garden Industry’s vision and passion for ‘growing your own’ produce at home.

Today, the growing garden foodie can grow herbs and vegetables regardless of the size of their garden – there are even small fruit trees available that will thrive quite happily in a pot on the balcony or in the courtyard.

Melissa King, presenter on Gardening Guru and author of “Garden Feast” comments; “I get so much pleasure from growing and eating my own food and I want to inspire a new generation of gardeners to do the same.

I know not everyone has the luxury or space or the time to create a totally self-sufficient garden- I certainly don’t- but I encourage everyone to have a go at growing at least a few edible plants at home. There has never been an easier time to begin experimenting with a kitchen garden.”

Nothing beats whipping up a tomato pasta sauce with your own tomatoes, garlic and basil. Your local garden retailer will be able to advise you on what to plant when and show you the latest organically certified products on the market. So what are you waiting for? Get growing at home!
