The English style: learning from the cottage
The English style of garden shows a desire to be a part of nature, rather than to tame it. This style of garden came into its own slightly later than its European counterparts and is less formal. While it maintains a carefully maintained backbone structure of walls and hedges, flowers spill over these gardens to create a less controlling approach to nature. The formal English garden comes out of the simple cottage garden approach, where flowers bloom and foliage flows over to create texture, colour and movement.
