Achievable beauty in your own backyard

We would all love to have a beautiful garden of our own but many of those that we admire in garden shows or lifestyle magazines are simply too difficult or expensive to replicate in our own backyard.

Not anymore. The Nursery & Garden Industry and Accredited Garden Centres have developed 14 exciting garden designs, complete with planting recommendations and easy to follow plans, just for you.

The Achievable Gardens project makes the dream of a stylish designer garden a reality.

All 14 gardens were exhibited at the 2007 Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show (MIFGS) with glowing reviews. With a little help from your local garden centre, all these Achiveable Garden can be recreated in your own backyards.

If you missed seeing the gardens at MIFGS, Life is a Garden is showcasing an Achievable Garden every month. Download the Design Card below.

Alternatively, you can visit your local quality accredited garden centre to pick up your own copy of the plans. The experienced staff can give you handy tips and help you adjust the plans to meet the individual needs of your garden and local climate.

Achievable garden of the month

Urban Oasis, designed by Kathy Sticpewich, Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE

Create a functional space for both outdoor entertaining and relaxation with this lush and relatively low maintenance garden.

Designed to evoke a feeling of peace, serenity and privacy in an urban environment, all plantings are chosen to be dense and lush to help keep outside distractions at bay. The contrasting red/burgundy and green foliage colour scheme adds year round colour and is enhanced at times with flowers and fruit.

Discuss plant selections with your local Accredited Garden Centre. They will have further suggestions suitable to your local area and growing conditions.
